Men's Swimming & Diving Posts 120-104 Win over UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team posted a 120-104 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday evening at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (2-1) placed first in eight out of 12 events including both relays.

Senior Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.) led the way for Bridgewater State as he won two individual events as well as a relay. Smith captured top honors in both the 200 individual medley (2:03.74) and the 100 backstroke (55.46). He also ran a leg on the Bears' 400 freestyle relay along with junior Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) and sophomores Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) and Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.). The foursome won the event with a time of 3:21.80.

Rose added a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (10:39.50), while Flaherty was also the first to touch the wall in the 100 freestyle (50.66).

The BSU quartet of freshman Quinn McAlear (Norton, Mass.), sophomore Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.), Santos and senior Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:41.61. McAlear also placed first in the 100 butterfly (55.55), while Willis posted the top performance in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.75).

Junior Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) recorded a career-best six-dive score of 201.15 points to place second on the one-meter diving board.

In upcoming action, the BSU swimming & diving teams compete at the Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMD on Saturday starting at noon.
