Men's Swimming & Diving Posts 163-96 Win over Regis

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team posted a 163-96 win over Regis College on Saturday at a meet hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Bears (1-1) garnered first place points in ten out of 14 events.

The BSU relay squad of senior Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.), sophomore Dylon Willis (Attleboro, Mass.), freshman Quinn McAlear (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 1:40.36.

Willis added victories in both the 50 breaststroke (28.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.45), while Smith was the first to touch the wall in the 100 backstroke (55.69) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.56), and Flaherty added a win in the 50 freestyle (22.94).

Junior Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) picked up a pair of individual wins in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:45.04) and the 500 freestyle (5:11.29).

Senior Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' first-place point producers. Medina captured top honors in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.21 seconds, while Santos posted a time of 51.11 seconds in the 100 freestyle.

Flaherty, Santos, Medina and senior Benjamin O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded the top time in the final event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.22). The Bears swam the final event as an exhibition.

The Bears also hosted the diving events at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool. Junior Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) placed first on both the one and three-meter boards. Belinsky recoreded a career-best score of 199.50 points on the one-meter and tallied 162.55 points on the three-meter.

In upcoming action, the BSU swimming & diving teams entertain UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday evening at six.
