Richard Smith Named NEISDA Swimmer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Richard Smith has been selected as the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Male Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.

Smith is the just second BSU men's swimmer to garner the accolade. He joins sophomore teammate Jameson Rose who earned the honor last season.

Smith placed first in three individual events against Division I Boston College last week. The Milford, Massachusetts product captured top honors in the 100 butterfly (54.03), the 100 backstroke (55.15) and the 400 individual medley (4:25.48).

Smith also swam a leg on the Bears' 200 medley relay along with Rose, junior Max Medina and freshman Dylon Willis. The foursome posted a time of 1:41.44 to finish second in the event.

The BSU men's swimming and diving team will be back in the pool on Saturday when they travel to Regis College to take on the Pride. The meet is slated to get underway at 11:00 AM.
