Men's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Tri-Meet on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team swept a tri-meet against Husson University and Regis College on Senior Day at Moriarty Pool.

Bridgewater cruised to a 242-30 win over Husson, and posted a 170-131 victory over Regis. The Bears improve to 5-7 in dual meet competition with the sweep.

Prior to the meet, the Bears honored seniors George Apostolopoulos (Mansfield, Mass.) and Joseph Saros (Plainfield, Conn.).

Junior Richard Smith (Milford, Mass.), sophomore Jameson Rose, and freshman Dylon Willis (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the way for the Bears with two individual event wins apiece.

Smith was the first to touch the wall in the 100 individual medley (55.14) and the 50 butterfly (24.29), while Rose captured top honors in both the 500 freestyle (5:07.21) and 1,000 freestyle (10:34.89). Willis placed first in the 50 breaststroke (28.08) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.90).

Rose and Smith also swam a leg on the meet-ending 4x200 freestyle relay along with junior Max Medina (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.). The foursome won the event with a season-best time of 1:31.34.

Medina also finished second in the 50 freestyle (23.79) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.18), while Santos placed third in the 50 butterfly (25.53).

Junior Benjamin O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished just behind Medina for third in the 100 backstroke with a time of (1:07.98).

Junior Andrew Hebert (Lincoln, R.I.) added a third place showing in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:38.82.

The BSU swimming & diving teams are off until next Saturday (Feb. 4) when they host Elms College at 1:00 PM.
