BSC Swim Teams Split a Dual Meet with UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater. The BSC women's team cruised to a 156-79 victory, while the men's team dropped a 121-92 decision.

On the women's side, the Bears posted a first place finish in each of the first 11 events. BSC spread the wealth as seven different competitors won at least one individual event.

Junior Jillian Coache (New Bedford, MA) won a pair of races taking both the 50 freestyle (:26.13) and 100 butterfly (1:03.19) events. Junior Sarah Fuller (Palmer, MA) placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:07.09) and 100 freestyle (:58.13), while freshman Lindsey Hatton (Westfield, MA) also was a double-winner capturing both the 1000 freestyle (11:56.69) and 500 freestyle (5:47.76) events.

Junior Erica Robinson (Lynn, MA) placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.44), and sophomore Bryn  Morwick (Indianapolis, IN) won the 200 individual medley (2:22.53). Robinson and Morwick also teamed with junior Katrina Schultz (Amesbury, MA) and freshman Liz Foss (Dedham, MA) to capture first place in the 200 medley relay (2:02.36).

Senior Jennifer Jackson (Randolph, MA) and sophomore Mia Miller (Seekonk, MA) took the honors in the diving portion of the meet. Jackson placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 214.60. Miller captured first on the three-meter board with 208.10 points.

On the men's side, sophomore Brendan Sullivan (Holyoke, MA) won a pair of individual events and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team to lead the way for the Bears. Sullivan posted a time of 2:16.25 in the 200 individual medley, and 5:43.06 in the 500 freestyle. He teamed up with junior Mauer Desai (Pittsfield, MA), and freshmen Dan Connolly (Weymouth, MA) and Ken Berardi (Hanover, MA) to register a time of 1:39.75 in the 200 freestyle relay. Desai was also a winner in the 100 butterfly as he registered a time of 1:01.39.

UMass took advantage in the diving portion of the men's meet as the Corsairs took all 29 points which was ultimately the difference in the meet. Sophomore Matthew Fahey (New Bedford, MA) placed first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. He posted a score of 208.95 on the one-meter and 200.30 on the threemeter.

The BSC swimming and diving teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Bears host Clark University at 2 PM.
