BABSON PARK, Mass.—Three different players scored to help head coach Jon Anderson earn the 400th win of his career as Babson College defeated visiting Bridgewater State University, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday night at MacDowell Field.
Babson, which has won four straight games, improves to 10-2-4 overall, while Bridgewater State slips to 9-7 on the year.
Anderson, who is in his 33rd season at Babson, is one of just seven active coaches and one of 20 all-time in the Division III ranks to reach the 400-win milestone.
Juniors Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) and Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.), and freshman Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) each had a goal for the Beavers. Senior Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H.), classmate Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) and junior Chris Czarnecki (Baltimore, Md.) all chipped in with one assist apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Austin Makouski (Suffield, Conn.) turned away three shots to win for the third time in as many starts this fall.
Senior Kessy Alves (Praia, Cape Verde) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season for the Bears, who got nine saves from junior Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.).
Following a 45-minute weather delay, the Green and White took the lead less than nine minutes into the contest when Ziad drilled home a rebound from inside the six-yard box following a corner kick. Morgado kept Bridgewater State within one thanks to a kick save on Parker's bid from the top of the box in the 32nd minute and a diving stop on senior Ian Fromhein's (Osterville, Mass.) header in the 35th minute.
Bridgewater State sophomore Adam Gold (Norwood, Mass.) also denied another Babson scoring chance when he blocked freshman Morgan Schwartz's (Rockville, Md.) shot while on the ground just before halftime.
The Beavers added to their lead in the 51st minute when Crompton touched home the rebound of Parker's rocket off the post to make it 2-0. Alves pulled one back for the Bears with a penalty kick in the 61st minute, but Collins cancelled his goal out with a left-footed blast that deflected off the post and in four minutes later.
Babson finished with a 22-8 edge in shots and attempted six of the game's eight corner kicks.
Babson is 16-8-3 all-time against Bridgewater State and are unbeaten over its last 19 matches (16-0-3) against the Bears dating back to 1990.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as the Beavers host Coast Guard at 2 p.m., while Bridgewater State takes on MCLA at 4:30 p.m.
