Filipe Gomes Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior forward Filipe Gomes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Gomes scored a pair of game-winning goals and added an assist for five points in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears last week. The Fogo, Cape Verde native netted the game-winner with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation in a 2-1 win over non-conference rival UMass Dartmouth. He also tallied the game-winning goal with just six seconds remaining in regulation and added an assist in a 2-1 MASCAC victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Through 15 games this season, Gomes has recorded a team-leading seven goals and five assists for 19 points. Three of his seven goals have been game-winners.

Gomes is currently tied for second in the MASCAC in game-winning goals and tied for fourth in assists. He also ranks fifth in the conference in goals and sixth in scoring.

In 45 games over his first three seasons with the Bears, Gomes has amassed 22 goals and 13 assists for 57 points. He is tied for eighth all-time at Bridgewater State in goals and tied for ninth in scoring.

The BSU men’s soccer team is currently 5-8-3 on the season and 2-3-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain non-league rival Babson College on Tuesday night at seven before wrapping up conference play at MCLA on Friday night at six.
