Men's Soccer Blanks MCLA, 1-0

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sophomore forward Ronaldo Powell (Nantucket, Mass.) tallied the game's only goal to lift the visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over MCLA on Friday evening at Shewcraft Field. The game marked the regular season finale for both teams.

With the win, the Bears clinched a spot in next week's MASCAC Tournament as they improve to 6-9-3 on the season and 3-3-1 in conference play. The host Trailblazers end the 2017 season with an overall record of 5-11 including a 2-5 MASCAC mark.

Powell headed home a free kick sent into the box by sophomore defender Zachary Ells (Douglas, Mass.) in the 40th minute of play to stake the Bears to the 1-0 lead.  The goal was Powell's second of the season.

Both teams had multiple chances to score the rest of the way, however neither side could muster up another goal.  Each team recorded nine shots in the second half of play.

The Bears held a 19-13 shot advantage for the night, while MCLA earned a 9-4 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU sophomore keeper Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) stopped five shots to earn his sixth win and fifth shutout of the season.

Senior netminder Kamron Anderson (Springfield, Mass.) tallied four saves in a losing effort for MCLA.

Prior to the game, the Trailblazers honored seniors Anderson, Tyler Callahan (Brewster, Mass.), Oscar Castro (Middle Island, N.Y.), Romeo Grey (Mashpee, Mass.), Augustin Ndayikeza (Worcester, Mass.), Tyler Tatro (Springfield, Mass.)  and Joe Tavella (Islip, N.Y.).

The Bears will play in the opening round of the MASCAC Tournament next Tuesday. Tournament pairings are expected to be announced on Saturday evening.
