NORTON, Mass. -- Senior forward Louis Chavez (Porterville, Calif.) tallied a pair of goals including the game-winner in overtime to lift the Wheaton College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at Keefe Field.

The host Owls improve to 5-6-2 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-8-2.

The game marked the fourth straight overtime contest for Bridgewater State and sixth on the season. The Bears are 0-4-2 in those six overtime games.

BSU junior forward Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out at the five-minute mark to stake the visitors to the early 1-0 lead. For Gomes, the goal marked the 20th of his career as well as his 50th career point.

Wheaton trailed for over 67 minutes before Chavez tallied the equalizer in the 72nd minute off a feed from classmate Amara Sesay (Bronx, N.Y.).

Chavez potted the game-winner just over four minutes into the overtime session following a long ball from junior midfielder Curran Wait (Scituate, Mass.).

Chavez led all players on the field with nine shots, while Gomes led the visiting Bears with five. Gomes was stopped on breakaway in the second half by Wheaton senior keeper Erik Wisniewski (Salisbury, Mass.).

Wisniewski made nine saves in the win for the Lyons, while BSU sophomore netminder Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside nine shots for the Bears.
