Men's Soccer Falls to Western New England in Season Opener, 4-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 4-0 setback to Western New England University on Friday afternoon.

Senior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) registered his second career hat trick to lead the host Golden Bears. All three of Remillard's goals came in the first half as the hosts held a 4-0 lead at the break and never looked back.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) stopped all six of the shots that he faced in just over 73 minutes of action to earn the victory between the pipes for the Golden Bears.

Sophomore midfielder Mike Doyle (Chicopee, Mass.) also scored for Western New England which held a 16-9 shot advantage including a 10-5 edge in the first half.

BSU junior forward Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) led the Bridgewater State offense with three shots on goal.

Sophomore Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) recorded four saves in the setback.

Western New England (1-0) will be right back in action on Sunday, as the Golden Bears host MCLA at 1 p.m. Bridgewater State (0-1) entertains Salve Regina University next Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.
