BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College got goals from four different players, including two from senior Adam Villari (Lansdale, Pa.), on its way to defeating visiting Bridgewater State University, 5-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which remains seventh in the NCAA regional rankings, ran its unbeaten streak to 10 games and is now 10-4-3 on the year, while Bridgewater State slips to 7-7-2 overall.
Sophomores Ian Fromhein (Osterville, Mass.) and Ted Hilger (Hopkinton, Mass.), and freshman Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) all scored once for the Beavers.
Junior goalkeeper James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.) made one save in 54 minutes of action to post his tenth win of the season.
Freshman Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned away six shots, while classmate Michael Da Silva (Milford, Mass.) recorded two saves for the Bears.
Villari opened the scoring the fifth minute when he took a pass from senior Caleb Long (Kingston, Mass.) on his right and chipped a half volley over Morgado, who was caught coming off his line, to give the Green and White a 1-0 lead. He added to the advantage with his seventh goal of the year in the eighth minute when the ball deflected to him following a turnover just outside the Bridgewater State penalty box.
Babson pushed its lead to 3-0 just before halftime when Crompton turned towards goal and beat a defender going to his right before ripping a shot that deflected off the right post and in for his second career tally at the 44:40 mark.
The Beavers put the game away for good with two more tallies in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. Hilger slotted a 15-yard shot inside the right post off a pass from freshman Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) in the 50th minute to make it 4-0. Babson capped the scoring in the 65th minute with a highlight-reel goal from Fromhein. Senior Joe McWeeney (Lexington, Mass.) took a pass out wide on the right flank from sophomore Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) and served it into the box for Fromhein, who buried a diving header at the far post for his second marker of the season.
Parker and Fromhein both hit the post in the second half, while Bears' sophomore Jameson Bradley (Westborough, Mass.) saw his shot from the edge of the box hit off the top off the crossbar after beating Babson freshman goalkeeper Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) to a loose ball in the 70th minute.
The Beavers dominated the game statistically, finishing with a 28-3 edge in shots and an 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams conclude the regular season on Saturday as Babson travels to Emerson at 4 p.m., while Bridgewater State visits Worcester State at 8 p.m.
