Men's Soccer Rallies For 2-1 MASCAC Win Over Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's soccer team tallied a pair of second-half goals just 17 seconds apart as the visiting Bears rallied to post a 2-1 victory over Framingham State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contest at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Bears improve to 3-5-1 on the year and 1-1-1 in the MASCAC, while the loss drops the Rams to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute of play as sophomore forward Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) converted on a feed from sophomore midfielder Simon Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) in the box for the his fourth goal of the season.

The lead would stand until the 75th minute when the Bears put two markers on the board. Senior midfielder Sawyer Fleck (Foxboro, Mass.) sent a corner into the box and classmate Prince Collins (Boston, Mass.) got off a shot that was redirected by a Ram defender into the net for an own goal at 74:12.

Bridgewater quickly regained possession off the ensuing center restart and Collins split the defense with a thru ball from 35 yards out. BSU sophomore forward Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) ran onto the ball and beat the Framingham netminder one-on-one for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Rams had their chances late in the game including with 2:40 left when junior midfielder Andy Segura (Haverhill, Mass.) had a clean look off a corner kick, but his bid sailed just over the crossbar.

The Rams held a slim 15-14 edge in shots for the game, while the Bears led five corners to four.

BSU senior netminder Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) earned the win between the pipes for the Bears as he turned aside four shots. Junior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) made five saves for the Rams and surrendered a pair of goals.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Springfield College for a non-conference game at 4 p.m. The Bears travel to non-league fore Roger Williams University on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
