Murtagh Nets Game-Winner as Men's Soccer Blanks Mass. Maritime, 1-0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Junior Conor Murtagh's (Walpole, Mass.) goal in the 33rd minute of action lifted Bridgewater State to a 1-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The Bears improve to 7-7 on the season with the win and remain atop the MASCAC standings with a 4-1 conference mark.  The Buccaneers slip to 5-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the MASCAC.

Murtagh converted a feed from fellow junior Kolin Campbell (Norton, Mass.) and broke in from the left side of the net for his team-leading fifth tally of the season for the visiting Bears.   Sophomore Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made that goal stand up as he was forced to make just one save en route to his seventh victory and fifth shutout of the year.

Sophomore Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made three stops in goal in the setback for the host Buccaneers, as the Bears outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 10-6 margin overall (4-1 on goal) while the Buccaneers took four of the six corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, October 25th when the Buccaneers head to Framingham, Mass. to take on Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at Noon.  Bridgewater State travels to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
