Men's Soccer Falls to Coast Guard 1-0 at USM Invitational

GOREHAM, MAINE – Junior midfielder Alex Lane (Shorewood, Wisc.) scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute leading Coast Guard to a 1-0 win over Bridgewater State at the Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday.

Coast Guard posted a perfect 2-0 mark at the season opening four-team invitational, while Bridgewater State finished at 1-1.

Senior netminder Richie Burns (Long Beach, Calif.) made three saves to register his first shutout of the season and the 17th of his career.

Sophomore Brad McNell (Antioch, Calif.) assisted on the Lane goal 14:45 into the second half.

BSU sophomore goaltender Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made six saves in goal for Bridgewater.

Coast Guard outshot Bridgewater State 12-7 and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams are back in action next Saturday afternoon. Bridgewater State travels to Brandeis University for a four o'clock game with the Judges, while Coast Guard entertains the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy at noon.

Junior forward Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.), who notched a hat trick in the Bears' 4-0 win over Southern Maine on Friday, was one of three Bears selected to the All-Tournament Team. He was joined by senior defender Chris Naughton (Braintree, Mass.) and junior midfielder Nicholas Keddie (Abington, Mass.).
