Men's Soccer Falls to Wheaton, 2-0

NORTON, Mass. -- The Wheaton College men's soccer team handed Bridgewater State University a 2-0 loss in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Keefe Field.

Lyons' junior forward Travis Blair (Hastings, N.Y.) registered one goal and one assist, while classmate Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted the game-winner in the 13th minute to snap a two game losing skid for the Blue and White.

Early in the first half, Blair found Enman sprinting in stride near the right flank with a sharp pass through the middle of the Bears backline from the defensive end of the pitch giving Enman a one-on-one chance at goal. Enman possessed the ball cleanly and fired a strike into the lower left corner of the net after breaking away from Bridgewater State's defense.

The Lyons continued to press after taking a 1-0 advantage as the Bears came up with two team saves, which were both turned away by junior defender Chris Naughton (Braintree, Mass.), over the next 12:54 of play to keep the deficit at one goal. Wheaton junior Brian Kenny (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) also had a free kick bid ricochet off the post in the 17th minute during that span.

Down a man in the second half, the Blue and White capitalized on a foul roughly 25-yards outside of the box as Blair deposited his team-leading 11th goal of the season into the top left corner of the net for a 2-0 gap.

Bridgewater State produced several chances in the closing stanza compiling all seven of its shots on goal against Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Matt Dickey (Newton, Mass.) over the final half. Bears' senior goalkeeper Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) turned aside six shots in the loss. Dickey, who improves to 9-5-0 on the season, recorded his fifth shutout in goal for the Lyons. The visitors outshot Wheaton, 16-15, while the Lyons held a 7-2 differential in corners.

Wheaton (10-5) travels to Emerson College on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup. Bridgewater State (5-6-2) hosts Mass. Maritime in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) showdown on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. With the victory, the Lyons pushed their record against the Bears to 18-2-0 in the all-time series which dates back to 1992.
