Men's Soccer Posts 1-0 Shutout Over MIT

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Craig Shadduck's (Braintree, Mass.) early first half goal held up as the Bridgewater State University men's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout over visiting MIT on Wednesday evening at Swenson Field.

The host Bears even their 2013 record at 2-2, while the Engineers slip to 3-2 on the young season.

Shadduck staked Bridgewater to the early lead less than five minutes into the contest as he potted his first goal of the season and 14th of his career.  Senior forward Colin Neri (Upton, Mass.) set up the goal with a cross from the right side that was misplayed by an MIT defender.  Shadduck picked up the feed all alone in front of the net and beat the keeper with a shot inside the right post.

MIT junior keeper Samuel Cannon (Scarsdale, N.Y.) stopped three first half breakaways to keep it a one-goal game at the intermission.  He stopped one-on-one bids by Shadduck in the 12th minute and Neri in the 30th minute as well a point-blank range shot by freshman forward Prince Collins (Boston, Mass.) in the 33rd minute.

Bridgewater held a slight 7-6 shot advantage in the first half as well as a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.  Only five of MIT's six shots were on frame.

Neri had another breakaway attempt in the 55th minute after beating a defender one-on-one, but Cannon forced a shot that missed wide and off the outside of the right post.  Neri got behind the defense again in the 68th minute but was turned aside by Cannon.

The Bears limited the Engineers to just two shots in the second half and finished with a 14-8 advantage for the game.

BSU senior goaltender Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) was forced to make just one save in the game as he recorded his second straight shutout and sixth of his career.

Cannon turned aside nine shots in the setback for the Engineers.

Both teams are off until next Wednesday night.  Bridgewater travels to Rhode Island College for a six o'clock game with the Anchormen, while MIT heads to Roger Williams University to take on the Hawks at seven.
