Adams, Mendes Headline All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

2009 MASCAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer All-Conference Team was announced with six Bridgewater State College standout soccer athletes earning First or Second Team All-Conference honors.

Head Coach Brendan Adams was named the MASCAC Coach of the Year.  Adams led his squad to an overall record of 9-5-3 with an impressive conference mark of 6-0-1.  The Bears captured the MASCAC regular season title for the third time in the team history and for the first time since their 2003 season. 

In his eight seasons as the BSC skipper, Adams' coaching record stands at 74-59-15 (.551) with an impressive conference mark of 36-15-5 (.688)  Adams also garnered MASCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2003 after leading the BSC men's soccer team to their first conference regular season title since 1994.

Freshman forward Simao Mendes (Brockton, MA) was selected as the MASCAC Rookie of the Year and was also named to the All-MASCAC First Team.  Mendes led the team in assists with seven and finished second on the team with eight goals and 23 points.  He started 14 of the 15 games he played in and was a perfect 4-for-4 in penalty kicks.

Joining Mendes on the All-MASCAC First Team are senior forward Luke Brewer (Edgartown, MA), senior goaltender Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore midfielder Dan Roberts (Braintree, MA).

Brewer led the team in goals with 12 and in scoring with 27 points.  Four of his 12 goals were game-winners.  In just two seasons at BSC, Brewer totaled 16 goals and seven assists for 39 points.

Seifert is making his second straight appearance on the all-conference team as he was a first team selection as well a year ago.  He started all 17 games for the Bears and posted a record of 9-5-3 with 84 saves and a 1.71 goals against average.  In 44 games over three seasons at Bridgewater, Seifert has a career goals against average of 1.34 with 243 saves.  He also has 24 wins to his credit as well as nine shutouts.

Roberts has started 34 of 35 games over his first two seasons at Bridgewater State with two goals and three assists for seven career points.  In 2009, Roberts recorded a goal and three assists for five points.  He finished tied for third on the team with his three assists.

Senior midfielder Matt Daniels (South Easton, MA) and senior defender Tim Cuprinski (Brockton, MA) are BSC's two representatives on the All-MASCAC Second Team. 

Daniels finished fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points as he notched four goals and five assists.  In his four years as a member of the men's soccer team, Daniels registered nine goal and eight assists for 26 points in 55 career games.

Cuprinski played and started in all 17 games for the Bears from his defensive position.  He has been as dependable as it gets over the course of his four seasons at BSC, appearing in 73 of a possible 74 games with 72 starts.  During his career, the team posted 18 shutouts as well as a 1.48 goals against average.
