Jim O'Connell is in his ninth season as a member of the Bears' coaching staff. A 1994 graduate of Providence College, Jim earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science and was the head manager for the Providence College men's basketball team while an undergraduate from 1991-1994. In 2004, Jim earned his Master's degree in Public Administration from Bridgewater State.
Jim is involved in all aspects of the program. On the court his primary duties include the development of the guards, as well as game strategy and scouting opponents. Off the court Jim coordinates the program's recruiting efforts. In his time as the recruiting coordinator, the Bears have produced 14 All-MASCAC Team members and two MASCAC Rookie-of-the-Year players. He also manages the program's Summer Camps and Clinics.
In 1995 Jim was named interim head coach of the Colby Community College basketball team and was the top assistant coach at Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts from 1995 to 2001.
Jim is presently a Systems Analyst for the Town of Westwood. He resides in Franklin, Massachusetts with his wife, Janine and their three sons; Alex, Zachary, & Nathan.
