Rayshon Ward Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore forward Rayshon Ward has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Ward notched 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots in the Bears’ 85-79 comeback win over Becker College last week. The Plymouth, Massachusetts product connected on 6 of 14 field goal attempts and was 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Fourteen of Ward’s 20 points came in the second half as the Bears erased an 11-point deficit with 8:43 remaining in the game.

Through 11 games this season, Ward is averaging 13.7 points and 6.6 rebounds, while shooting 51% (56-110) from the floor and 73% (33-45) at the charity stripe. He ranks fourth in the MASCAC in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage and ninth in both scoring and blocked shots (0.7 bpg). Ward is also tied for tenth in the conference in free throw shooting.

In 37 games over his first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Ward has amassed 221 points, 117 rebounds, 33 assists, 19 steals and 14 blocks.

The BSU men’s basketball team is currently 5-6 on the season. The Bears are off until Thursday, January 4th when they entertain the Beacons of UMass Boston at 7:30 PM.
