Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Men's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Joseph Carty, senior guard Rocky DeAndrade and sophomore forward Rayshon Ward have been voted by the league's coaches to the 2017-2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

Carty and DeAndrade each garnered All-MASCAC First Team honors, while Ward will represent the Bears on the All-MASCAC Second Team.

DeAndrade and Carty are making their second straight appearance on the All-MASCAC Team, while Ward is making his debut.

Carty, who hails from Natick, Massachusetts, is averaging 15.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists over 23 games in his third and final season with the Bears. He is also shooting 43% (111-256) from the floor and 80% (125-155) at the charity stripe.

Carty currently leads the MASCAC in rebounding and is tied for the conference lead in double-doubles with 16. He also ranks fourth in free throw percentage, seventh in scoring and tenth in assists.

On a national level, Carty is fifth in all of Division III in rebounding and is tied for eighth with his 16 double-doubles.

In 64 games over his three seasons at Bridgewater State, Carty has amassed 836 points, 665 rebounds, 113 assists, and is a career 76% (284-373) shooter from the line.

DeAndrade, who has started 25 games this season, is averaging 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. The Mansfield, Massachusetts product is also shooting 47% (141-300) from the floor, 48% (61-148) from behind the arc, and 85% (67-79) at the free throw line.

DeAndrade ranks second in the MASCAC in scoring and third in both free throw percentage and three-point shooting. He is also tied for fourth in assists, as well as sixth in steals and ninth in field goal percentage.

In 104 games over his four seasons at Bridgewater State, DeAndrade has amassed 1,139 points, 304 rebounds, 273 assists, and 133 steals. He is a career 44% (383-872) shooter from the field, 40% (159-399) from the three-point range, and 82% (214-260) at the line.

DeAndrade became the 28th player in BSU men's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone in a 68-58 win over Fitchburg State University on January 25th.

Ward, the only player on the team to start all 27 games this season, is averaging 15.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. The Fayetteville, North Carolina native is also shooting 50% (152-303) from the floor, 37% (28-76) from beyond the arc, and 71% (88-124) at the free throw line.

Ward ranks fifth in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and sixth in both scoring and rebounding. He is also eighth in the conference in three-point shooting and tenth in free throw percentage.

In 53 games over his first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Ward has amassed 490 points, 243 rebounds, 75 assists, and 38 steals. He is a career 49% (178-365) shooter from the field, 33% (30-92) from beyond the arc, and 70% (104-148) at the stripe.

The BSU men's basketball team finished the 2017-2018 campaign with an overall record of 18-9. Seeded second in the MASCAC Tournament with an 9-3 conference record, the Bears posted a 102-93 semifinal round win over #3 MCLA, and went on to defeat #4 Fitchburg State, 77-72, to claim the program's seventh MASCAC Tournament title and earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Bridgewater will travel to Williamstown, Mass. to face the #5 nationally ranked Ephs of Williams College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at 7:30. The Bears are making their eighth appearance in the national tournament and first since 2014.
