Joseph Carty Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior forward Joseph Carty has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Natick, Massachusetts, Carty averaged 16 points, 13.5 rebounds and four assists while shooting 50% (10-20) from the floor, 67% (2-3) from three-point range and 91% (10-11) at the free throw line in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears.

Carty posted a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds to go along with five assists in an 88-75 MASCAC win on the road over MCLA. He also recorded his 13th double-double of the season with 11 points and ten boards and added three assists and a blocked shot in a 70-64 conference victory over Westfield State.

In 20 games this season, Carty is averaging 15.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He is also shooting 44% (97-220) from the floor and 81% (114-140) at the charity stripe.

Carty currently leads the MASCAC in rebounding and double-doubles (13), and ranks third in the conference in free throw shooting and fifth in scoring. Carty is also in the top ten in all of Division III in rebounding as well as double-doubles.

In 61 games over three seasons at Bridgewater State, Carty has amassed 795 points, 625 rebounds, 100 assists, 24 blocks and 33 steals.

The BSU men’s basketball team is currently 14-7 on the season and 7-1 in the MASCAC. Winners of five straight games, the Bears host a key conference game with Salem State University (19-3, 9-0 MASCAC) on Wednesday night at 7:30.
