Men's Basketball Cruises to 84-44 Win over Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass.  --  Sophomore forward Rayshon Ward (Plymouth, Mass.) scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University men's basketball team to a convincing 84-44 victory over Westfield State University in a MASCAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Woodward Center.

The Bears improve to 9-6 on the season and 2-0 in the MASCAC, while the host Owls fall to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Bridgewater limited Westfield to just 23 percent shooting (15-65) for the game. The Owls opened the game just 3-24 from the floor and trailed 41-23 at the half.

Senior guard Rocky D'Andrade (Mansfield, Mass.) added 19 points for the Bears, with senior forward Joseph Carty (Natick, Mass.) tacking on ten points and eight rebounds. D'Andrade now has 934 points in four seasons at BSU.

Westfield was led by 12 points from junior guard Peter Mafo (Lynn, Mass.) and ten from sophomore guard Moody Bey (Springfield, Mass.).

The Owls connected on just 1 of 15 three point attempts, and Bridgewater State blocked ten Westfield shots. BSU sophomore forward Dimitri St. Louis (Brockton, Mass.) finished with a team-best three blocks. St. Louis has 13 blocks in the last four games and leads the team with 22.

Bridgewater shot 47% (28-60) for the game and went 5-for-17 (29%) from behind the arc. The Bears also connected on 23 of 29 (79%) free throw attempts. 

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday night at 7:30. The Owls host Framingham State University while the Bears travel to Salem State University.
