Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Men's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior guard Fawaz Mass, junior forward Joseph Carty and junior guard Rocky DeAndrade have been voted by the league's coaches to the 2016-2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

Mass, Carty, and DeAndrade each garnered All-MASCAC Second Team honors.

Mass and Carty are making their second straight appearance on the All-MASCAC Team. Mass was a first team selection last season, while Carty was named to the second team a year ago. DeAndrade is making his debut on the all-conference team.

Mass, who started all 27 games this season, averaged 15.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also shot 44% (145-330) from the floor and 70% (112-160) at the free throw line.

Mass ranks second in the MASCAC in both made free throws and points scored (430). He is also fourth in scoring and made field goals.

In 79 games over his three seasons at Bridgewater State, Mass amassed 952 points, 292 rebounds, 85 assists, 28 blocked shots and 52 steals. He is a career 44% (324-739) shooter from the field and 71% (265-374) at the line.

Carty, who hails from Natick, Massachusetts, averaged 11.7 points and 8.5 rebounds over 21 games in his second season with the Bears. He also shot 71% (75-106) at the charity stripe.

Carty is currently fifth among the MASCAC leaders in rebounding, seventh in made free throws, and tenth in free throw percentage.

In 41 games over his first two seasons at Bridgewater State, Carty has amassed 479 points, 374 rebounds, 58 assists, and is a career 73% (159-218) from the line.

DeAndrade also started all 27 games for the Bears this years as he averaged 13.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. The Mansfield, Massachusetts native shot 48% (120-251) from the floor, 42% (47-112) from beyond the arc, and 85% (85-100) at the free throw line.

DeAndrade ranks second in the MASCAC in free throw percentage and third in assists, assist to turnover ratio, steals, and three-point shooting. fifth in made three pointers, sixth in made free throws, seventh in field goal percentage and total points, and eighth in points per game.

In 79 games over his three seasons at Bridgewater State, DeAndrade has amassed 729 points, 218 rebounds, 192 assists, and 98 steals. He is a career 42% (242-572) shooter from the field, 39% (98-251) from beyond the arc, and 81% (147-181) from the charity stripe.

The BSU men's basketball team finished the 2016-2017 campaign with an overall record of 15-12 on the season. Seeded third in the MASCAC Tournament with an 7-5 conference record, the Bears posted a 65-41 opening round win over #6 Framingham State University, before falling to second-seeded Salem State University 69-68 in the semifinals.
