DeAndrade, Romanko Named to NABC Honors Court

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior guard Rocky DeAndrade and senior forward Greg Romanko have been named to the 2016-2017 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Courts which recognizes men's basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.

Over 1,100 student-athletes from more than 350 colleges and universities earned the distinction.  The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these student-athletes possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.

In the classroom, DeAndrade currently sports a 3.72 cumulative grade point average (GPA), while Romanko graduated this past May with a 3.40 GPA. DeAndrade is majoring in management while Romanko earned his Bachelor of Science degree in management.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and a varsity player, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 academic year. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution and the institution must be a member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II with a NABC member coach.

In 79 games over his first three seasons with the BSU men's basketball team, DeAndrade has amassed 729 points, 218 rebounds, 192 assists and 98 steals. Last year, he started all 27 games at points guard for the Bears and averaged 13.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 42% (47-112) from three-point range and 85% (85-100) at the free throw line.

Romanko appeared in 90 games over his four seasons with the  squad and tallied 498 points, 226 rebounds, 47 assists, 45 blocked shots and 65 steals. He started all 27 games in 2016-2017 and averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 39% (57-148) from behind the arc.

The BSU men's basketball squad is also one of 218 teams from across the country to be recognized with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by teams with cumulative grade point averages (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-2017 season. The Bears recorded a team GPA of 3.04 for the 2016-2017 academic year.
