Michael Lofton Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the sixth time in his career, Bridgewater State University senior forward Michael Lofton has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Mansfield, Massachusetts, Lofton earned All-Tournament honors at the BSU Bears Invitational this past weekend as he averaged 22 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists and three blocks while shooting 67 percent (18-27) from the floor in a pair of games.

Lofton notched 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and five assists in a 72-70 opening round setback to Clark University, and added 19 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots in a 77-62 consolation game victory over Medgar Evers College.

In 83 games over three-plus seasons with the Bears, Lofton has amassed 1,067 points, 669 rebounds, 133 assists, 130 blocked shots and 149 steals.  He is currently the Bears' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.632) and ranks second only to former standout Peter Santos (2001-05) in blocked shots. Santos tallied 133 blocks from 2001 to 2005.   Lofton also ranks 23rd amongst the team's career scoring leaders.

The  BSU men's basketball team is currently 2-2 on the young season. The Bears travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday night to take on the Anchormen at 7:30.
