Men's Hoop Opens MASCAC Play with 83-74 Win at Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Junior forward Roland Millien (Stoughton, MA) scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to power Bridgewater State to an 83-74 victory over Westfield State in a Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) opener.

The Bears are 6-6 overall. Westfield is 10-4 and had its eight-game winning streak halted.

Westfield led 18-10 with 9:45 remaining in the first half before Bridgewater starting controlling the inside and outside play. The Bears went on a 17-4 run to take a 27-22 lead, but Westfield rallied to tie the score at the intermission, 29-29.

Bridgewater went on another run at the start of the second half, outscoring the Owls 14-2 for a 43-31 advantage at the 16:34 mark.

Bridgewater's biggest second-half lead was 18 points, 64-46, with 6:40 remaining. Westfield cut the lead to 10 with 2:46 remaining, but Bridgewater quickly went back on top by 13 when Judah Jackson drained a 3-point basket. Jackson, a freshman guard from Everett, was the Bears' only other player in double figures with 19 points.

Millien was 13-for-15 from the foul line, and had 17 points and nine rebounds in a dominating second-half performance.

Junior guard Dave Jaehnig (Quincy, MA) led Westfield with game highs in five categories: 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and three steals. Sophomore forward Drew Pereira (Seekonk, MA) scored 12 points.
