Bears Fall to Western Connecticut, 84-79, in Men's Hoops

DANBURY, Conn. -- Senior Jamie Procino (Yorktown Heights, NY) scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Western Connecticut State University to an 84-79 victory over Bridgewater State College on Wednesday evening at Feldman Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for WestConn were sophomore Tyshawn Gillespie (Hartford, CT) who scored 15 points, made seven steals, and dished out five assists, junior Dashon Jennings (Bridgeport, CT) who scored 13 points, and sophomore Wilburt Jerrett (Hartford, CT) who added 10 points for the Colonials.

Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) led Bridgewater State with 15 points before leaving the game at the 16:25 mark of the second half with an injury.  Judah Jackson (Everett, MA) scored 14 points and Cesar Oliveira (Taunton, MA) added 13 in the losing effort.

WestConn took a 42-39 lead in to the locker room at intermission, but Bridgewater State opened the second half with a 10-0 run and extended their lead to nine points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. 

The Colonials fought back to reclaim the lead with seven minutes remaining, but the lead would change hands more six times before a jumper by Procino with two minutes remaining put WestConn ahead for good. 

Bridgewater State had one final chance to send the game into overtime, but with 10 seconds remaining and WestConn leading by three, the Colonials stole the Bear's in-bounds pass and hit their final two free throws to make the final margin 84-79

With tonight's victory, WestConn raises its record to 7-2 on the season while Bridgewater State falls to 2-6.
