Field Hockey Opens 2019 Campaign with 10-0 Loss to Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Springfield College field hockey team opened the 2019 season with a decisive 10-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

Freshman forward Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) netted a hat trick to pace Springfield while junior defender Morgan Bronk (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Holly Rivers (Danbury, Conn.) each potted a pair of goals. Sophomore midfielder Emma Wesoloski (South Deerfield, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Carly Torrance (Concord, N.H.) dished out four assists apiece for the Pride.

Sophomore ReAnna Kenyon (Carver, Mass.) and senior Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) combined to make 19 saves between the pipes for Bridgewater State with Delaney turning aside 13 shots. Senior defender Kim Kowalick (Groveland, Mass.) was also credited with a defensive save for the Bears.

Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Morehouse (North Attleboro, Mass.) turned aside one shot to post the shutout for the Pride.

Springfield held a 39-4 shot advantage as well as a 12-2 edge in penalty corners.

The Pride (1-0) return to the field on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Western New England University for a four o'clock game with the Golden Bears. The Bears (0-1) head to WPI on Tuesday night to take on the Engineers at seven.
