Field Hockey Falls to Westfield, 2-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Westfield State University field hockey team posted a 2-0 shutout of Bridgewater State University in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Owls improve to 2-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Little East, while the host Bears fall to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Senior defender Rachel Bunce (East Dennis, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner to break a scoreless tie in the 41st minute. Bunce redirected a hard centering pass from freshman midfielder Marina Small (South Harwich, Mass.).

Just a little over three minutes later, the Owls made it a 2-0 game. Sophomore forward Cora Rogers (Milford, Mass.) received a pass from junior forward Jordyn Gosselin (Bolton, Vt.), stick-handled in and wristed a shot past the BSU netminder.

Westfield freshman goalkeeper Molly Duff-Still (Hatchville, Mass.) made four saves to recorded her first win and first shutout of the season. BSU sophomore Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.) turned aside two shots in the setback.

The Bears outshot the Owls by a margin of 10-8 and held an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.

Both teams are back in action with non-conference games on Tuesday. The Bears host Salve Reginal University at seven, while the Vikings travel to MIT to take on the Engineers at four
