Shelby Farland Named Little East Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Bridgewater State College freshman midfielder Shelby Farland has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Field Hockey Offensive Player.
Farland helped lead BSC to a pair of conference victories over Worcester State College and Western Connecticut State University last week as the Bears improved to 8-4 on the season and 6-2 in Little East play.
The Fiskdale, Massachusetts native scored a pair of goals including the game-winner in a 2-1 road win at Western Connecticut. She was also part of an outstanding team effort in BSC's 1-0 shutout victory over Worcester State as the Bears limited the Lancers to a total of just four shots. Of Bridgewater's eight wins this season, five have been shutouts.
Farland has started all 12 games during her rookie campaign and has five goals and one assist to her credit for a total of 11 points. She leads the Bears in game-winning goals with three and is tied for the team lead in goals along with Bethany Bush. Farland is also second only to Bush in scoring with her 11 points.
With three conference games (four overall) remaining in the regular season, Bridgewater is currently tied for fourth place in the Little East standings. This week, the Bears host Framingham State College on Wednesday afternoon (4:00) and welcome the University of Southern Maine on Saturday (1:00). After a non-conference game at the University of New England on October 27th, BSC will wrap up the regular season schedule with a one o'clock game at Plymouth State on Halloween.
