Stefano D'Emilia Earns New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior quarterback Stefano D'Emilia has been selected as this week's Division II/III recipient of the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

For the fifth straight year, the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III institutions throughout New England.

D'Emilia is the Bears first Gold Helmet Award winner since former running back Bruce Burley earned the honor in 2008 (Nov. 5).

D'Emilia accounted for eight touchdowns (seven in the first half alone) and threw for a school record 345 yards in the Bears’ 56-20 Homecoming victory over UMass Dartmouth. The Bridgewater, Massachusetts product completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for a school record-tying five touchdowns and rushed for 53 yards and three touchdowns as he amassed 398 yards of total offense. D'Emilia also caught a two-point conversion pass as he had a hand in 50 of the team’s 56 points.

Through seven games this season, D'Emilia has completed 116 of 186 pass attempts for 1.509 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has also rushed for four touchdowns.

D'Emilia currently leads the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in completion percentage (.624) and is second in pass efficiency rating (152.07). He is also third in the MASCAC in both passing touchdowns and completions, and fourth in passing yards.

In 30 games over four seasons with the Bears, D'Emilia has completed 431 of 774 pass attempts for 5,267 yards and 47 touchdowns to go along with six rushing touchdowns. He is second all-time in program history in passing yards and completions, and tied for third in passing touchdowns. D'Emilia is also currently the Bears' all-time leader in completion percentage (.557) and is fifth in pass efficiency rating (126.17).

Earlier today, D'Emilia was named the MASCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week.

The BSU football team is currently 4-3 on the season and 4-1 in the MASCAC as the Bears have won each of their last four games. Following a bye week, the Bears will entertain MASCAC foe Plymouth State University on Saturday, October 26th at 2:30 PM.
