BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman linebacker Steven Silvia has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Football Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.
Silvia notched five tackles (four solo), including his first collegiate sack, and recorded his first collegiate interception in the Bears' 34-13 setback to Framingham State University. The Dighton, Massachusetts product returned the interception 32 yards to the Framingham three which set up a Nick Santavicca's three-yard touchdown run.
In three games this season, Silvia has registered 15 tackles (nine solo) with two going for loss.
The BSU football team is currently 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears host Fitchburg State University on Friday night at seven.
