BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior punter Joseph Leanos has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Football Special Teams Player of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.
A native of Norwood, Massachusetts, Leanos averaged 38.5 yards on two punts with a long of 41 yards, one inside the 20 and a fair catch in the Bears’ 34-19 win over Salve Regina University in the New England Bowl. He also caught two passes for seven yards and a touchdown from his tight end position.
In nine games this season, Leanos averaged 33.0 yards on ten punts with four fair catches and one inside the 20. He also hauled in eight receptions for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The BSU football team wrapped up the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 8-3. The Bears finished tied for second in the MASCAC standings with a 6-2 conference mark.
