Jack Lavanchy Named MASCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior wide receiver Jack Lavanchy has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week.

Lavanchy set BSU single-game records for both receptions and receiving yards as he hauled in 14 passes for 254 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Bears’ 27-20 MASCAC setback to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Walpole, Massachusetts product scored on touchdown passes of 15 and 12 yards. His longest reception was for 64 yards and he also added a 44-yard catch.

Lavanchy eclipsed BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione's 19-year old mark of 221 receiving yards set against Framingham State in 1998. The previous program record of 12 receptions in a game was set by Chris Joyce in 2007 (vs. Plymouth State) and equaled by Matt Green in 2013 (vs. Mass. Maritime).

Lavanchy's 254-yard game ranks as the seventh highest receiving yardage total in Division III this season. His 14-catch performance is tied for ninth in Division III for 2017.

Lavanchy also became the sixth receiver in BSU football history to reach the century mark for career receptions and the seventh to achieve the 1,500-yard milestone. He is fourth all-time at Bridgewater State with 112 catches and seventh with 1,506 receiving yards.

In seven games this season, Lavanchy has 64 catches for 953 yards and seven touchdowns. He is just five receptions shy of the Bears' single-season mark of 69 catches set by Matt Green in 2013.

Lavanchy leads the MASCAC in receptions and receiving yards, and ranks third in touchdown catches. Lavanchy also ranks second in all of Division III in receiving yards and is third in receptions.

The BSU football team is currently 2-6 on the season and 2-4 in the MASCAC. Following a bye week, the Bears will host Worcester State University on Saturday, November 4th at noon.
