Matt Green Named ECAC Division III Northeast Co-Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior wide receiver Matt Green has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast Co-Offensive Player of the Week.  Green shares the weekly honor along with Maine Maritime Academy freshman running back Jacob Doolan.

A native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, Green caught eight passes for a career-best 216 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 41 seconds left, to lift Bridgewater State to a dramatic 27-23 win on the road over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Westfield State University this past weekend.

Green's impressive day included touchdown catches of 95 and 90 yards on back-to-back second half possession, and the game-winning four-yard score on a crossing pattern in the end zone as time was winding down in the fourth quarter.

The 95-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Danny Higgins (Manahawkin, N.J.) equaled the program mark for longest pass completion set during the 2000 campaign.  Coincidentally, the quarterback/receiving tandem of current Co-Offensive Coordinator Pat Callahan and Chris Carr also set the record against Westfield State.

With his 216 receiving yards, Green increased his career total to 2,634 as he needs just nine yards to eclipse BSU Hall of Famer Andy Macaione's all-time program record of 2,642.  The 216 receiving yards also marks the second highest single-game total in BSU program history trailing only Macaione's 221 against Framingham State in 1998.

In six games this season, Green has 53 catches for 769 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also amassed 1,166 all-purpose yards as he is averaging 13.7 yards on 12 punt returns with a pair of touchdowns, and 20.0 yards on 12 kick returns.

Green, who missed two games this season due to injury, leads the MASCAC in receptions and is third in the conference in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.  He is also fourth among the MASCAC leaders in all-purpose yards and fifth in scoring (54 pts.).

On a national level, Green ranks fourth in all of Division III in all-purpose yards per game (194.3), fifth in receiving yards per game (128.2) and sixth in pass receptions per game (8.8).  He is also tied for second in Division III in punt return touchdowns, and ranks 18th in punt return average (13.7).

Green's name is all over the BSU football record book as he currently holds program marks for receptions in game (12 vs. Mass. Maritime in 2013), season (69 in 2013) and career (158), as well as receiving yards in a season (1,315 in 2013), touchdown receptions in a game (5 vs. Worcester State in 2013) and touchdown receptions in a season (16 in 2013). Earlier this year, Green also set the Bears' single-game record by returning two punts for touchdowns in a 51-27 win at Worcester.

Earlier this week, Green was named the MASCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

The BSU football team is currently 4-4 on the season and 3-3 in the MASCAC standings.  After a bye week, the Bears travel to Framingham State University on Saturday, November 8th to take on the Rams at noon.
