Equestrian Competes at Babson College Show

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed on Sunday in an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 event hosted by Babson College at the Karen Stives '68 Equestrian Center in Wellesley.

The Bears placed fourth in the team standings at the show.

Freshman Sophia Barnard (Halifax, Mass.) started the day out for the team placing third in open fences aboard Sissy, a 16 hand lived chestnut.

Freshman Ashley Crosby (Littleton, Mass.) jumped around in intermediate fences to a second place ribbon with Jake, a 15 hand Clydesdale. Crosby then placed fourth in open flat on Aramis.

Sophomore Madison Elliott (Centerville, Mass.) captured top honors in intermediate flat on Rose, a 16 hand grey mare. Elliott has now qualified for regionals in both fences and flat.

Senior Sydney Hawes (Pembroke, Mass.) guided Spartacus, a 14.1 hand bay gelding, in limit fences and Charlie, a 14.1 hand liver chestnut, in limit flat placing fourth in each class.

Sophomore Katherine Ryan (Mendon, Mass.) rode Huey, a large chestnut pony, to a second place ribbon in limit fences.

Junior Tessa LeBlanc (Harwich, Mass.) also garnered a blue ribbon for the Bears on Charlie in limit flat.

Sophomore Abby Lucas (Pembroke, Mass.) guided Dillon, a 15.2 hand chestnut gelding, through a novice flat class finishing third.

Freshmen Ashley Drake (Suffield, Conn.) and Jenna Root (Rutland, Mass.) brought home two more blue ribbons for the Bears. Drake rode Rose in novice flat, while Root guided Eagle, a 15.2 chestnut gelding, also in novice flat.

Junior Abigail Adams (Webster, Mass.) climbed aboard Remi, a 15.2 hand grey mare, and earned a fourth place finish in introductory.

Today's show wrapped up the fall season for the BSU equestrian team. Following today's show, the team has seven riders headed to postseason regionals in the spring.
