Equestrian Wraps Up Weekend of Competition at Holly Hill Show

HANOVER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University equestrian team wrapped up a weekend of competition on Sunday at Holly Hill Show Stable in Hanover. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone One, Region Four event was hosted  by Boston University.

Senior Kelly Thies (Cranston, R.I.) posted a third-place showing in intermediate fences on Chevy, a 16.2 hand bay gelding.

Freshman Madison Elliott (Foxboro, Mass.) rode Cue, a 15.2 hand chestnut gelding, in novice fences and placed second. Elliott also finished sixth in intermediate flat with Lucky, a 15.3 hand bay gelding.

Junior Jeanna Meloni (Falmouth, Mass.) rode Jack Douglas, a 16 hand chestnut gelding, and placed sixth in novice fences. Meloni then rode Jack Bay, a 16.1 hand thoroughbred gelding, in novice flat and grabbed the sixth spot.

Senior Kayla Martin (Bridgewater, Mass.) had a beautiful ride on Cue in her first novice flat class.

Junior Sydney Hawes (Pembroke, Mass.) won her advanced walk trot canter class on Keebler, a 14.2 hand buckskin gelding. In the same class, classmate Maria Marchione (Hull, Mass.) placed fourth on Spirit, a 15.2 hand brown and white paint gelding.

Sophomore Emily Adams (Plympton, Mass.), senior Heather Griffin (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Kendra Latham (Newburyport, Mass.) all rode in the same beginner walk trot canter class. Adams placed third on Caramel, a 14.2 hand chestnut gelding, while Griffin rode Moonie, a 14.2 hand bay gelding, and placed 4th. Latham finished fifth on Jack Douglas.

Bridgewater State placed tenth in the team scoring.

The Bears wrap up the fall portion of their schedule next Sunday (Nov. 11) when they travel to the Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Mass. for a show hosted by Boston College.
