Bresciani's Walk-Off Double in 10th Lifts Baseball to 3-2 Win over RIC

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior Kevin Bresciani's (Hopedale, Mass.) walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted the Bridgewater State University baseball team to a 3-2 non-conference victory over visiting Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Park.

The host Bears improve to 12-16 on the season with the win, while the Anchormen fall to 22-11.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the tenth, freshman Liam Bell (Wells, Maine) worked a one-out walk. After a fly out, Bresciani blasted a double to the gap in the left centerfield scoring Bell all the way from first with the game-winning run.

Sophomore David Kerns (Cambridge, Mass.) picked up the win in relief for the Bears as he tossed a scoreless top of the tenth. Kerns (3-1) recorded his team-leading third win of the season.

Junior lefthander Alex McGrath (Bridgewater, Mass.) got the start on the mound for Bridgewater State and threw five solid innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. McGrath allowed just one run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Sophomore Matt Josselyn (Hanson, Mass.) worked two scoreless innings of the relief for the Bears.

The Anchormen opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Senior Tyler Walsh (Cumberland, R.I.) roped a leadoff double to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch and trotted home on junior Nick Feola's (North Providence, R.I.) RBI single up the middle.

The Bears would answer with a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth despite having a runner thrown out at the plate in the frame. Bresciani led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a walk to junior Jonathan Livolsi (Bridgewater, Mass.). Junior Lewis Robinson (New Britain, Conn.) followed with a single to right, but Bresciani was thrown out trying to score from second. After a ground out advanced Livolsi and Robinson, senior Dominic Precopio (Framingham, Mass.) roped a clutch two-run single past the diving first basemen to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

RIC fought back to knot up the game at two in the sixth as junior Ray Zincone (West Warwick, R.I.) drove in Walsh from first on a deep double into right center.

Junior lefthander Jake Rockefeller (Cumberland, R.I.) was tagged with the loss in relief for the Anchormen. Rockefeller (0-1) gave up just the one run on one hit and walk with one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Freshman Connor Davey (Cheshire, Conn.) went the first six innings on the hill for RIC. Davey allowed two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

Precopio went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to pace the BSU offense. Bresciani (2-for-5, GW RBI) also finished with multiple hits for the Bears.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Westfield State University on Friday afternoon for a 3:30 MASCAC game with the Owls. The Anchormen head to Clark University on Thursday afternoon to take on the Cougars also at 3:30.
