BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman right-hander David Kerns has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week.
A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kerns tossed three solid innings of relief allowing just one unearned run on three hits in a 10-7 setback to Monmouth College last week in Vero Beach, Florida.
Kerns made two appearances on the mound, including one start, during the Bears' nine-game Florida swing. He posted a 4.91 earned run average and struck out six batters in 7 1/3 innings of work, while opponents batted just .250 against him.
The BSU baseball team is currently 3-6 on the young season. Bridgewater's four games this week have been postponed due to the impending winter storm.
