Baseball Falls to Muskingum, 11-3

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Bridgewater State University baseball team dropped an 11-3 decision to Muskingum University on Thursday in Vero Beach, Florida.

The Bears fall to 3-5 on the season with the setback, while the Fighting Muskies improve to 2-4.

Muskingum plated four runs in the first and never looked back. The Fighting Muskies scored at least one run in six of the eight innings they batted.

Sophomore right-hander Josh Bigrigg (Coshocton, Ohio) worked the first seven innings to record his first win of the season. Bigrigg (1-1) allowed just one run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Junior DH Michael Pagano (Pickerington, Ohio) went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI to highlight the Muskies' 18-hit attack. Senior second baseman Eddie Harper (Berea, Ohio) reached safely in four out of five plate appearances as he went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Senior left fielder Alex Carey (East Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore centerfielder Lewis Robinson (New Britain, Conn.) and senior right fielder Ryan Kelleher (Danvers, Mass.) notched two hits apiece for Bridgewater State. Carey went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, while Robinson went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run. Kelleher roped a pair of doubles in four at bats and knocked in two runs.

Three BSU pitchers combined to give up 11 runs (seven earned) on 16 hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings of work. Junior right-hander Shawn Smeglin (Wakefield, Mass.) an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts.

The Bears wrap up their trip to Vero Beach on Friday when they take on Monmouth College at 11:00 AM.
