Samuel Devine Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior lefthander Samuel Devine has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Devine tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout with a career-high 13 strikeouts in the Bears’ 7-0 MASCAC win on the road over Massachusetts Maritime Academy last week. The Bourne, Massachusetts product scattered four hits and walked just one in the 110-pitch effort.

In seven appearances for the Bears this season, all starts, Devine posted a record of 4-1 with one complete game. He struck out 26 batters and produced and earned run average of 4.60 in 29.1 innings of work.

Devine is tied for seventh in the MASCAC in wins and tied for eighth in starts. He also ranks eighth among the conference leaders with 7.98 strikeouts per nine innings.

The BSU baseball team wrapped up the 2017 season with an overall record of 10-21 (3-11 MASCAC).
