Jeff Puopolo Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior right-hander Jeff Puopolo has been named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Puopolo posted a 2-0 mark last week with a 1.64 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 innings of work.

Poupolo tossed complete game five-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 10-1 MASCAC win at MCLA.  He also allowed a run on three hits over four innings of work with a walk and two strikeouts in the Bears' 13-1 victory over Becker.

In seven appearances this season, Puopolo has a record of 4-3 with three complete games and 33 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work. He currently ranks third in the MASCAC in opponents batting average against (.241) and is tied for fourth in wins and complete games, and tied for eighth in strikeouts.

The versatile Pool has also appeared in 27 games as an outfielder, two as a catcher and one as a pinch hitter.  He has scored 19 runs this season, driven in 17 and is 11-for-14 in stolen base attempts.

The Bridgewater State baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a record of 23-14 including a 10-4 mark in MASCAC play.  The Bears are seeded second in the conference tournament and will host third-seeded MCLA on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.
