Bridgewater State Hosts First Annual BSU Turkey Trot

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- On Saturday, November 19th, the Bridgewater State University Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation and the Community Service Center hosted the First Annual BSU Turkey Trot.

The BSU Athletics Department was an integral part of making this program successful, with teams and administrators pitching in countless volunteer hours, food, and Thanksgiving meal baskets.

The event was an outstanding success as over $1100 was raised and 15 Thanksgiving meal baskets as well as ten boxes of food were donated.  In addition, the BSU Athletic Training Staff donated 13 turkeys

Erin Spaulding, Director of the Family Life Center, commented, “All together there was enough food contributed to feed 31 families”.

The 2011 BSU Turkey Trot consisted of a five-kilometer run and three-kilometer walk through and around Bridgewater State with all proceeds going to the Family Life Center.  The center is a transitional facility for families in Brockton.

104 runners and walkers participated in the event with 2011 BSU Hall of Fame inductee and current head field hockey coach, Erika Smith, winning the women’s race in 22 minutes and 58 seconds.  Michael DeBruin was the top men’s performer as he posted a time of 20:21 over the 5k course.
