Spring 2010 MASCAC All-Academic Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Fifty Bridgewater State College student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league’s Spring 2010 All-Academic Team that was released by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the nine MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed spring sports season, and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the most recent academic semester, are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.

The conference recently changed its format for announcing its All-Academic Team, as the MASCAC will now honor student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom on three occasions during the course of the academic year in the fall, winter and spring.

"The emphasis in our department will always be on the 'student' part of student-athlete," said Bridgewater State College Director of Athletics, John Harper, "and I am proud that we have coaches who also subscribe to that philosophy."

"I am indebted to all of our coaches and administrators who share that vision and focus for our student-athletes," Harper added.

Westfield State College placed the most student-athletes on the Spring 2010 MASCAC All-Academic Team with 71, while Fitchburg State College (55), Salem State College (55), Worcester State College (55) and Bridgewater State followed.

Entering its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions:  Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College.  Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey.
