Eight Bears Named to Little East Fall All-Academic Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Eight Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been named to the Fall 2017 Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team which was recently announced.

The eight BSU student-athletes include four field hockey players and four representatives from the women's tennis team.

To earn a spot on the all-academic team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher, be a full-time member of a varsity team and have been at their current institution for at least one full academic year.

Receiving the honor as members of the field hockey team are juniors Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.), Samantha Hayes (Norwood, Mass.), Mia Pelletier (New Bedford, Mass.) and Alexandra Zoebisch (Plymouth, Mass.). Representing the women’s tennis team are seniors Alisha Silva (Taunton, Mass.) and Amanda Strickland (Plymouth, Mass.), junior Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.).

The Little East Conference began honoring an all-academic team during the 2007-08 academic year. While the majority of Bridgewater State varsity squads are members of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), three BSU teams call the Little East home. Field hockey and women’s tennis compete in the Little East in the fall, and men’s tennis in the spring.
